So, it appears that the cookie does not persist from secured to unsecured, unfortunate that. When logging in you should have the secured version of the URL, the login cookie will not be read by the unsecured version of the site.

Logo changes are being rolled out as I find the time to edit the image as appropriate. I'm still playing with the styling for the quick access navigation links at the top of the page to expand them out from being simple images.
